Mark,Don't know about your first issue, but regarding the error message you have: There are a couple of things which cause this notice to pop up. The most common one is when your soundcard is set to a sample rate which is different from the rate you have selected within Logic for your song file.
Check your sample rate in Logic (in the Song Settings --> Syncronization pane), and make sure it is the same as the setting you have made for your soundcard. Also make sure that the sample rate you select is the same rate that the audio you are importing was recorded at.. if it's not, then you must sample-rate-convert that audio file (in the Sample Editor) after importing it, or it will play back at the wrong speed (whatever setting you've made within Logic). If the soundcard is clocking to an external device (via word clock, for instance), make sure that the main device is set to the same sample rate, as well.
I believe it can also be caused by having more than one MIDI-Interface hooked up at the same time.
