Just curious Nikki. Do you give up ownership of your lyrics after being paid or do you expect future royalties if the song becomes successful?

I think a 50/50 relationship between a lyricist and composer is an equitable formula. That is to say, both the lyricist and the composer own the song jointly and will collect on the success of the song on a 50/50 basis.

If however the lyricist wants to sell his/her lyrics outright, then the composer should be the soul beneficiary of any future success of the song. Otherwise, the lyricist wants to have his/her cake and eat it too.
