Subject: Seeking advice on a new product for aspiring songwriters
Hi,I am testing the feasibility of a new product--an audio product to be marketed and delivered on the Internet called NashvilleSongwritingSessions.com. It's a very simple idea.
I would record complete co-writing sessions of Nashville hit songwriters (A-list writers only) and sell the resulting CDs or MP3s on the Internet. I would simply set up a couple of mics in the room, sit back like a fly on the wall, and let the tape run--to give aspiring songwriters a real, valuable, inside look at how hit songs evolve from the inititial idea to the finished product. I would create a series of these sessions and sell each one seperately or as a monthly subscription. I would pay a substantial royalty to the songwriters--$4 to $5 depending on where I set the retail price.
Given the immense size of the international songwriting market, the hunger for information about songwriting, and the prestige of the writers themselves, I believe I could sell at least 500 to 1000 copies of each session. The session would be available in two forms: 1) As online MP3 downloads for customers with a high speed connection, or 2) Multiple CDs delivered by mail. These would cost a little more than the downloads.
Does this sound like a product aspiring songwriters might buy? Do you perceive this as a valuable product? Let's say the writers are Bob DiPiero and Don Schlitz, with dozens of #1 hits between them. What do you think people might be willing to pay to sit in on one of their songwriting sessions from start to finish?
Any suggestions, thoughts, or ideas you may have that would help me produce and market this product would be quite welcome.
Thank you,
Steve Acker
