The New York Songwriters Circle is now accepting submissions from songwriters of all musical genres for its 2008 Songwriters Contest. Founded and directed by singer/songwriter Tina Shafer, The New York Songwriters Circle has been at the forefront of discovering top new songwriting talent for over 18 years.
Writers who have appeared in the past include Norah Jones, Vanessa Carlton, Lisa Loeb, Avril Lavigne, John Oates, Gavin DeGraw, Charlotte Sometimes, Jesse Harris and many more. Kate Voegele, winner of the Circle's 2006 contest, is currently starring in the hit tv show One Tree Hill and her new video is currently on MTV's TRL. Company of Thieves, winners of the 2007 contest, were recently named "one of the top bands to watch for in 2008" by the Chicago Daily Herald.
The Grand Prize includes $5,000 cash, a chance to perform at Madison Square Garden as part of The New York Songwriters Circle/New York Titans Concert series, Performance spots at Live Nation's Jones Beach 2009 Concert Series, professional recording studio sessions at Dubway Studios and much more. Additionally, a special International Award of $1000 will be awarded to a writer who originates from anywhere in the world outside the U.S. . A "Young writer Award" will be presented to a songwriter between the ages of 8 to 18 with a $1000 award towards a music scholarship.
All 12 finalists as well and special award recipients will receive:
0. An opportunity to perform as part of the Circle's showcase series in New York City or Philadelphia.
0. An opportunity to have their song included on NYSC’s compilation CD release.

This year, in addition to the top songwriters awards, the New York Songwriters Circle will award one songwriter who is between 8 to 18 years with the young songwriters award and a cash prize of $1000 towards a music scholarship. This award is designed to give one amazing young songwriter an opportunity to showcase their music to our network of top music industry judges live during our finale events in New York City in November as well as a $1000 cash prize to continue developing their talents.
